Roman Construction Crane

This robust machine was used for heavy lifting on most of the major construction projects of the Roman Imperial Era. An improved version of an earlier Greek construction crane, the Roman machine was able to lift about 8 tons to a height of perhaps 40 feet. Its power source was a treadwheel, turned by four or five men walking along its inner rim.
