Stephen Ressler

Dr. Steve Ressler is an educator with a passion for communicating the joys of engineering to anyone who is curious about the role of technology in our world. Steve is Professor Emeritus from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he taught civil engineering for 21 years. He is a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), and a registered Professional Engineer. Having retired from full-time teaching, he now “works for his delight” — developing engineering lecture series for The Great Courses, conducting teaching effectiveness workshops under the auspices of ASCE’s Project ExCEEd, speaking, engaging in engineering outreach to kids, and consulting.

The Great Courses offers an intellectually engaging series of video and audio courses in diverse fields, such as philosophy, history, literature, math, science, and music. Dr. Ressler has developed three DVD-based lecture series for The Great Courses and is currently working on a fourth.

The Bridge Designer is a free educational software package that provides a realistic introduction to engineering through the design of a highway bridge. Dr. Ressler developed the first edition in 1998; since then, over a million copies have been downloaded by students and teachers around the world.
